Am I Good At Guitar? Need Advice!?
Ok let me kinda tell you my dilema here…(sorry if its too long, but this has been bugging me)
So i’ve been playing guitar for a year now (technically 2 years, but i never got serious about it till a year later) and ive been taking lessons ever since. I play about. at LEAST 3-4 hours of guitar a day. and i really push myself to keep it that way. im not sure if im very productive of the time i use, but i definitely have the extra time to practice. My teacher is really nice/great and teaches me stuff i didnt even kno existed, but he expects alot out of me which is kind of pressurizing. I’m starting to learn more classical stuff and fingerstyle etc. but my style is more of a classic/punk/hardcore/blues type of rock (ex.jimi hendrix or jimi page). i only know a few easy full songs….(tears in heaven by clapton, stairway to heaven by zeppelin, hotel california by eagles, blackbird by the beatles and a 3-4 more). And i learned about the pentatonic scale and how to solo, but my speed in my opinion has barely improved at all. and it feels like i havent really stepped up from when i really started getting serious about my guitar and music playing.
so heres my question….
-first, what are some recommended songs that would be really good for me to learn and improve playing, and maybe even fun to show off a bit to friends (maybe)
- When you solo over a key….say key of Am or C major (same thing) to be easy. How do i solo more freely around the fretboard so im not stuck in just one or two boxes in the fretboard?
- What should i do to improve my speed a bit?
-Do you have any tips for songwriting?
- Ear training?
-How to be more productive of practice sessions?
- Lastly, when i practice how should i do it? How do you practice?
- and any other tips would great too
basically im just posting this cuz im really curious and i really wanna get good at my guitar (since i pretty much love music more than almost anything) you dont have to answer all of these questions, but anything would be extremely helpful. thanks
okay…i’ve been trying to learn to play my guitar from this little book thing for 2 years. it does not help ONE BIT.
should i try learning on my own w/out the book??
or should i just invest in the lessons??
i REALLY REALLY want to learn.
any advice???
